ONCE AGAIN, UF HEALTH UNITES FOR UNITED WAY
Employees surpassed last year’s donations in the annual campaign
$205,702 — that’s the amount raised in a little over a month by UF Health Shands employees for the North Central Florida community.
The funds were raised in support of the organization’s annual campaign for United Way of North Central Florida, or UWNCFL. The local charity, governed by local community leaders, maintains a laser focus on improving health, education and financial stability for people living in the North Central Florida area.
Last year, UF Health Shands employees raised $189,599 — making this year’s total a significant increase from the year before and a notable success, according to UF Health Shands leaders.
“I take pride in advocating for the United Way workplace campaign because giving back to our local community is a privilege for leaders within the health care industry,” said Lara Zamajtuk, associate vice president of operations and patient services at UF Health Shands.
Zamajtuk and Kathy Duval, associate vice president of operations for UF Health Shands Hospital, served as the campaign chair and co-chair, respectively. The campaign launched on Oct. 26 and ran until Nov. 19.
UWNCFL provides expert management of donor investments and brings the right people, ideas and resources together to solve the most pressing needs of our community and finds innovative solutions for lasting change.
One partner agency that’s close to home is our very own ElderCare of Alachua County — a 100% grant- and donation-funded agency operated by UF Health Shands. Last fiscal year, more than 90,000 meals were delivered to homebound seniors via Meals on Wheels. Although this is a substantial number, approximately 1,400 at-risk seniors are still on the waiting list to receive meals. Your contributions help programs such as ElderCare.
“The ElderCare team would like to extend a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone in the UF Health family for their support throughout the United Way campaign,” said Kacy Ealy, director of business development at UF Health. “Thank you for choosing to be leaders in supporting our community’s seniors.”

Another reason to feel good about your donation: 100% of the money raised stays within the state of Florida. And 100% of all donations made directly to ElderCare and the United Way Community Investment Fund stay in our six-county area of Alachua, Bradford, Dixie, Gilchrist, Union and Levy.
At UF Health Shands, our efforts to improve quality of life for those we serve are extensive, but our support for the United Way of North Central Florida and community agencies extends our care even further to those who need it most.
Thank you for uniting to make a difference in our community!
