Pinwheels raised child abuse awareness
April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month and 1,000 pinwheels graced the lawn of UF Health Shands Hospital along Southwest Archer Road to raise awareness about preventing child abuse and neglect and promote child and family well-being. The visible reminders were part of Prevent Child Abuse Florida’s Pinwheels for Prevention, a national movement that started in 2008.
More than 30 UF Health Shands staff and volunteers from Healthy Families Alachua and the Alachua County Child Abuse Prevention Task Force placed the pinwheels in front of the hospital.
