Heart recipient meets donor’s family

0TransplantSC1“Your gift of life has truly been a blessing. I hope one day your family will give me the opportunity to thank you in person.” Those were the words of heart transplant recipient Henry Wyman Harris, 70, in a letter to the family of the young man whose heart he received. Wyman recently met the family of his donor, Jesse Gamble, 19, who was struck by a drunken driver while riding his bicycle home from work more than six years ago. Gamble’s mother Lynn Finley traveled from South Carolina to meet Harris at UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital and share her son’s story and artwork. Gamble’s organs helped save the lives of seven people. The LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services team often unites the family of an organ donor with the recipient of their loved one’s gift of life.
